tis the season

This is the season for Traditions. My family has a TON of Christmas traditions. We make gingerbread houses, we go caroling on Christmas Eve with some neighbors, we get new Christmas Pajamas. My mom always make this "Broken Glass Salad" made with red and green jello. It looks so pretty but no one EVER eats it. It just sits in our desert cups. But its tradition, so its always made! When we were little we used to dress up like the characters from the Nativity and act out the story in our living room. Now that we are older we do it a little different.

A lady in my ward brought a wonderful tradition with her when she moved here from Arizona. Its the "Live Nativity." Many of you I am sure have seen or at least heard of the Nativity out at Tuachan. Well this Nativity was around long before Tuachan did it.
The lady in my ward did it back in Arizona for years, then when she moved here she had her neighbors and friends join in making it a new tradition here. The first year it was ever done in St. George it was done in a backyard in someone's home in Bloomington. From there it went to Christensen Park in Bloomington. Years later Tuachan caught wind of this wonderful Nativity and asked if they could hold it there. Since then Tuachan has taken it over, they have added some really neat things, but also taken some of the greatness away.
Every year on the Monday before Christmas the "original cast" goes out to Tuachan to partake in our tradition. So last night was our turn. This year we had a few more people partake. Like Mr. Lemon.

I ended giving up my angel wings for some special
girls who came to be in the nativity.
I was a towns person instead.
I've been both many times so its fun to let new people
experience the holiness of being an angel.

Orrin didn't grow up the way I did. I grew up singing, dancing and basically on stage! This whole lifestyle is completely foreign to him. So lets just say he was not too thrilled about being up on stage. He was a good sport though (during the show that is). It was only obvious that he be a solider. and boy did he look good in his costume!

He was the shortest, but strongest solider.

Its great to continue on with traditions. Hopefully the Nativity wasn't SO bad for Orrin that he may think of doing it again.

Christmas is a week away! Orrin and I leave for Ferron on Friday and will spend a few days there with his family in the snow. Then we will return to Sunny St. George the afternoon of Christmas Eve so we don't miss out on the Broken Glass Salad!
